We’d like to introduce T-san, a first-year master’s student in Social Engineering at the University of Tsukuba, who is working on designing a browser extension for Banban Board.
Introducing a Real-Life Example of One of Our Participants
Currently, T-san is designing a browser extension for Banban Board as part of the project. This extension aims to allow users to easily add products they’re interested in from the web pages they’re browsing directly to Banban Board. For example, a woman browsing skirts could rapidly add three skirts per second to her board without breaking her flow.
T-san is focused on designing an extension that doesn’t interfere with the current page display and allows seamless operation with a single button. Her notebook is already filled with various ideas as she contemplates the best solution.
Although she has minimal software development experience, T-san joined the project with the goal of gaining hands-on experience in development. On top of that, she is juggling her research activities and an internship in Tokyo on the weekends.
In one of our meetings, the need to consider psychological principles like affordances and anchoring in design was pointed out, which has broadened her perspective. She has also started reading newspapers and books on self-management, including Drucker’s The Effective Executive.
“Before joining, I was anxious about whether someone like me, with no experience, could contribute to software development. However, now that I’m two months into the project, I find myself learning something new every day through meetings and self-study. The sense of accomplishment I felt when I finally implemented a feature I had envisioned into an actual webpage was immense. Let’s grow together!”
The summer break is already halfway over, but it’s not too late to join. You can continue participating even after the summer break.
Eligibility: University students and graduate students
Location: Tsukuba University’s Hirasuna Dormitory, Rapport Amakubo 105 near Amakubo Park, and your own free time
Time: Weekdays from 8:30 AM to 6:45 PM, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to noon—join whenever you can!
Participation Fee: Around 1,000 yen per month for snacks
